Out of nowhere, Kenny Wallace claimed a Gold and Silver medal in the K1 at the Olympics and was also awarded the OAM on Australia Day.

He’s also been doing the PR circuit, his knock about laid back unaffected nature has made him a favorite on the footy show.

Ken was one of the first blokes I met at high school, his discipline and commitment was evident back then when he was training multiple times per day when he was in year 8.

His strength and conditioning coach from the Australian Institute of Sport, Glen Workman was one of my mentors when I first started out in the industry.

Its great to see them both achieve their goals of Gold in Beijing!

The Power of an Insatiable Work Ethic

Thursday, August 21st 2008

Haydyn Stoeckel

Congratulations to Haydyn Stoeckel winning a Bronze Medal at The Olympics in the Mens 100m backstroke.

I had the pleasure of coaching Haydyn at The PIT in early 2007.

He is a great kid with a phenomenal work ethic and a great example of perseverance!

The exciting thing is he is only going to get Bigger, Faster and Stronger!

His parents, Chris and Carols’ unwavering belief and support for Haydyn, was most definitely a cornerstone was his success!

He still holds the PIT Gym Record for the Front Bridge (12 mins) under our Professional Athlete Category

The PIT Gym crew and In Joe We Trust salute you!

2006 Wraps Up, looking forward to 2007!

2006 Wrap up:

Well what a year it was! In Joe We trust continues to grow and evolve and our athletes continue to get bigger faster stronger and become more successful. The PIT has grown with new athletes, programs and equipment in the facility.

This has culminated in athletes drafted to the NRL and AFL, swimmers representing Australia and breaking world records and other athletes in our programs producing career best performances and the results they so desire!

January

Saw a familiar faces back at the PIT for a bit of holiday action. The athletes love THE PIT and were having withdrawal symptoms. They love it miss and can’t wait to get back in there to throw some iron around. Kurt and Joel Tippett both dropped by to visit the athletes in the PIT and provided some motivational and inspirational advice for those who want to emulate their feats.
Nat Barnes on break from the Titans dropped by to experiment with a few new training modalities, to maintain and improve his strength and conditioning levels over the break.

Charlie Francis Seminar:

As part of my policy for continued education I attended the Charlie Francis seminar. Charlie Francis has coached some of the world’s fastest men and been instrumental in the development of other speed coaches around the world. The seminar was attended by other leaders in the strength and conditioning field such as Lachlan Penfold from the Lions and Mitch Kochonda and legendary surf coach from Northcliffe Pat O’Keefe.

All agreed the seminar was well worth attending considering he has produced numerous men to run sub 10 seconds. (Joey and Charlie at the Runaway Bay Sports Super centre)

This knowledge I obtained at the seminar has already been put to good use, with athletes at our Speed, agility, quickness and reaction camps already producing better times with the implementation of new techniques and theories presented by Charlie Francis.

The knowledge presented at the seminar is vital and is critical to the success of my speed, agility and quickness programming.

November / December Update

Saturday, December 30th 2006

November:

Congratulations to Kurt Tippett drafted to the Adelaide Crows and his brother Joel Tippett rookie listed to the Brisbane Lions. Well done from the PIT crew your hard work, consistency and dedication are the cornerstones to the ultimate success of our programs.

In November I attended the world renowned strength coach Charles Polqiuin’s Biosignature Modulation seminar. Charles presented groundbreaking techniques he’s developed to assess an athletes’ hormonal profile to ensure optimal hormonal balance for fat loss, muscle gain and recovery etc.

In other In Joe We Trust strength and conditioning news. I have signed up for another year with the Southport Sharks as the Head strength and conditioning coach, to repeat the task of 3 flags in a row!

Sharks coach Jack Crowley and myself have mapped out the pre-season to include a concentrated focus on running biomechanics, speed, agility, maximal strength and explosive power and maximal aerobic speed work as well as some other unorthodox methods such as strongman training and team building bootcamps.

December:

Saw In Joe We Trust athletes Tay Zimmer (50m and 100m) and Haydyn Stoekel (200m) both win national backstroke events. Stoekel is one of the new athletes to the PIT and In Joe We Trust. Stoekel said he was impressed with what In Joe We Trust had done for Tay Zimmer and he wants a slice of the action. Both swimmers have qualified for the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships in March. Both are set to dominate with new PB’s in training at the PIT and in the pool leading up to the March championships.

Super Swimmer Zimmer Swim strength and conditioning clinic:

Joey Hayes and Tay Zimmer travelled to country Victoria to put on a swim conditioning clinic in Warrnambool at The Splash Factory Swim centre. The clinic was attended by over 50 athletes and adults. The feedback was great with all athletes learning new swim techniques from Australia’s backstroke champion and her high performance strength and conditioning techniques from In Joe We Trust.

September: Sharks win second premiership flag (2 in a row)

sep-img-01.jpg

September:

PIT crew make QLD Allies team:
As a result of a great AFL Under 18 national titles and great QLD state league finals series. Members of the the PIT crew’s hard work was rewarded by being chosen in the Allies state open team. Making this team allows the athletes another opportunity to be looked at by potential AFL clubs. Haydyn Kiel, Kurt Tippett and Taury Zimmer were all part of the team. Kurt Tippett dominated and did his draft prospects no harm by dominating all over the ground.

PIT crew invited to state and national draft camp:
A record 5 PIT CREW athletes were invited to attend the AFL draft. Kurt Tippett and Haydyn Kiel were chosen for the national draft and Taury Zimmer, Dane Eaton and Joel Tippett were chosen for the state draft screening.

AAESS Conference Update:
I attended the AAESS conference in Sydney to see some of the great new groundbreaking research taking place in Australia and abroad. ECU’s founding Professor Rob Newton presentation ‘The latest trends in strength and conditioning’ was one of the highlights of the conference. By attending these conferences it ensures our athletes have access to the latest and greatest groundbreaking techniques available to give them the edge and advantage they need to succeed over their opponents!

October

As a result of a great work ethic and smart programming Nat Barnes increased strength, speed and explosiveness was rewarded by being named the QRL state league leading try-scorer and was given an invite to train with the NRL’s newest franchised club the Gold Coast Titans Titans.

The work ethic he’s formed in the PIT will hold him in good stead for the work of titans strength coach Billy Johnston.

After a remarkable season at the age of 24, Nat Barnes has done what was thought to be impossible.

May / June / July Update

Sunday, July 30th 2006

In June Nat Barnes represented the QLD open state rugby league team. Religious Rugby League player Nat Barnes started working with me in January 2006 with the goal of getting BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER in order to get a shot at the new ARL franchise the Gold Coast Titans Rugby League club. Nat improved his maximal strength in all key performance indicator lifts. His speed, explosiveness, agility and power all improved/remarkably significantly. Nat continues to get faster, stronger, leaner and more explosive throughout the season using In Joe We Trust’s unique training methods.

June - Joe’s athletes dominate at National AFL titles:

June saw 5 members of the PIT crew represent QLD at the under 18 national AFL championships in Victoria under the watchful eye of AFL scouts.

Taury Zimmer, Fraser Pope, Kurt Tippett, Haydyn Kiel and Dane Eaton superior strength and conditioning ensured their selection. Tippett’s upper body marking strength and dominance in the packs as well as Kiels explosiveness and Taury Zimmer who consistently beat his opponents caught the eye of AFL scouts. Pope and Eatons nuggetty and explosive frames were put to good use and they were quick and explosive around the packs.

In July PBC AFL won the QLD Lions cup:

PBC AFL sports excellence programs are continuing to evolve and grow under the expertise of the specialist strength and conditioning services provided by In Joe We Trust.

The junior and senior sides both won the QLD State Cup and were presented with the state champions trophy. According to coach Makay the difference was in the physical conditioning of the teams. Again a tribute to the coaches and the athletes completing the assigned work to the appropriate levels

Excellent start to 2006!

January - Tay Zimmer breaks the Australian and Commonwealth backstroke records and qualifies for the Commonwealth Games in the 50m 100m 200m backstroke.

March: In networking news I attended the CISC Commonwealth International Sport Science Conference. The purpose of attending these conferences is to stay abreast of current research and trends in the industry, with the aim of implementing new research and techniques further enhancing the servicing to athletes in my program. See photo below of Dr. Mike McGuigan from ECU (Edith Cowan University) Sport Science department and Dee Jennings VIS (Victorian Institute of Sport) physical preparation co-ordinator.

Whilst in Melbourne I also had a chance to talk shop with the conditioning staff at Richmond AFL club. I also caught up with ex Gold Coast AFL players Andrew Raines and Luke McGuane. And wouldn’t you know it, they were both deadlifting! Note to young up and coming footballers if you want to play AFL Football you must squat and deadlift!

In March Tay Zimmer won bronze in the 50m backstroke at the Commonwealth games

March also saw 5 members of the PIT crew selected to represent QLD at the under 18 AFL national championships in Victoria under the watchful eye of AFL scouts.
Taury Zimmer, Fraser Pope, Kurt Tippett, Haydyn Kiel and Dane Eaton all selected.

This highlights the success of The In Joe We Trust program. As you’re all aware places in the programs are scarce. Each athlete was screened, interviewed and selected to fill places vacated by other athletes drafted in 2005, thus were able to be part of the 2006 program.
