Check out the video below to see a little snippet into some of the early off-season training Gold Coast Suns Gun Alex Sexton undertook during the offseason with Ultimate Sports Performance.

The best always push their limits...
Getting out of their comfort zone is what makes them who they are...
The confidence to accept a new challenge..
It’s what makes them elite...?
Take for instance Courtney Hancock winning ? the inaugural nutri grain #ironx #sls competition on Monday.
4 weeks ago she’d never:
?Flipped a tractor tyre...
?Raced a stand up paddle board..
?Scaled a slip wall.
?Traversed gymnastic rings...
?Hauled a sandbag...
?Crawled thru a cargo net
?Hurled a dead ball...
But that didn’t hold her back...
True Champions...Evolve, Adapt
Awesome to have the Gold Coast Suns Players down at THE USP PIT Gymnasium over the Off-Season. The old adage goes, “It’s the work you do when no ones watching that counts! Good athletes do what’s expected…Great athletes do the extras and go above and beyond what’s expected. Click the link below to check out the video of a few of the Gold Coast Suns Most Committed Elite Players going through their first strongman training experience over the off-season!
Stoked to see USP Gun Athlete Nathan Andrews discipline and resilience shine thru with his selection in the Gold Coast Suns Academy U/16 Squad. A great effort whilst still undergoing chemo to beat the leukaemia but more importantly finding out the remission date has been moved forward 12 months! Check out the Channel 7 News story courtesy of Mitch Kroehn and shout out to red kite for their support.

The best is yet to come!
Often coaches and athletes attempt to replicate sports specific movements like using a weighted cable attachment tied around the ankle and swinging the leg in a kicking like manner to replicate the sports action of kicking, some surfers stand on a swiss ball and squat with the the belief that this exercise has greater transference to surfing. The research suggests that many simulated sporting movements can actually distort the athletes biomechanics when to comes to kicking, paddling or surfing which inadvertently decreases performance.
"A Gold Coast teenager has chalked up a milestone after being diagnosed with Leukemia two years ago. The 15-year-old who's with the Gold Coast Suns Academy is back on track to achieve his AFL dream despite an ongoing health battle"....The headline says it all!!
What does AFL Superstar Dayne Beams, Brayden Crossley, Kurt Tippett, World Champions Ironwoman Courtney Hancock, Australian Boomers Basketball Rep Matt Hodgson and every other successful elite athlete I have coached have in common? They all have a Growth Mindset. Click the link to find out how you can foster a growth mindset with your athletes!
I was fortunate to catch up with a former Brisbane Lions Triple Premiership AFL Player, Norm Smith Medallist, Gold Coast Suns Head of Development and Strongman Camp Guest Coach Shaun Hart along with Tim Searl who were presenting a seminar on The 3D Coaching Model. If you want your athletes to: 1. Learn skills quicker! 2. Have higher fitness compliance and work harder! 3. Recover quicker from injuries! 4. Be more adaptable to new conditions! 5. Have freedom to be creative! 6. Develop deeper relationships! 7. Learn life lessons through sport! The 3D Coaching Model could be a Game Changer!!
Gold Coast junior footballer Nathan Andrews battles cancer while chasing AFL dream. “I have met some strong people in my life but he is the toughest by far.”
Those are the words of Michael Andrews who has watched his son Nathan, 15, battle Leukaemia over the past two years while still maintaining his dream of one day playing in the AFL. The Labrador Tigers player was representing North Gold Coast when he suffered dizziness upon standing up and recalled seeing dots.
Awesome to have former Richmond, Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns AFL player; and now Gold Coast Suns Academy Head Coach and One on One Founder Andrew Raines down to impart his wisdom to the tribe members. The One on One football coaching platform that was developed by Andrew is a ground breaking idea. That allows footballers to get trained and mentored by former professional AFL players, coaches. As I have discussed there are 4 key determinants for elite sporting performance. Physical Qualities-(Strength, Speed, Power, Endurance, agility, flexibility).
Having watched him play for the last 12 years…ridden the highs and ridden the lows-They are like your own children-you see them grow up and evolve and mature into sensational human beings then one day they leave home or in other words retire from playing the game! I first came across Sam Gilbert as very lean raw lanky teenager at PBC High School in the AFL Sports Excellence Program…I think it was the 1st or 2nd year I started their physical preparation program maybe 2003 or 2004..this kid although not blessed genetically in the gym for size or strength..was working his backside off..
Awesome to have Channel 7 down to our USP Training facility to find out how our small private gym (Aka the USP PIT Gymnasium) tucked away in a Miami industrial area has produced some of the most outstanding athlete results of any performance facility in the country.
Check out the channel 7 news clip below to see Brisbane Lions AFLW Player and Legend and Special Guest High Performance AFL Camp Coach Arianna Clarke mentoring and taking some of our future AFL Superstars Piper Phelan and Imogen Evans through their paces at the USP PIT Gymnasium Training facility!
It was great to have an awesome article in the Gold Coast Bulletin about Ultimate Sports Performance elite training and coaching methods being successfully utilised by Australian Boomers Basketball Rep and Brisbane Bullets Player Matt Hodgson has been flying up from Adelaide and since arriving in Queensland travelling down from Brisbane using some revolutionary rehabilitation techniques and performance enhancing methods to take his body and performance to another level.
As is a long held USP tradition I always watch our athletes debut games. I remember watching Dayne Beams play for Collingwood against the Brisbane Lions, Sam Gilbert for St Kilda, Broc McCauley, and Bryce Retzlaff as well up at the Gabba many years ago!
Sitting in the grandstands on cool Ballarat Saturday afternoon I was fortunate to witness USP Athlete and now Gold Coast Suns AFL young gun Brayden Crossley-make his impact..when I say impact I mean physically impose himself on the game and throwing his body weight around.
Over the past week I’d been playing phone tag with Kurt Tippett, finally after 8 missed calls, he dropped the bombshell. “Joey, Im going to announce my retirement today (Monday 22nd January), I wanted to let you know first, before it was released to the media, mate I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done for me over the past 14 years you’ve had massive impact on me as a man and as a a footballer”!
I was shocked, but not surprised!
Awesome to see USP Athletes Brayden Crossley and Connor Nutting selected on Friday night! Having seen their growth and development as athletes and men. I’m so proud of how far these young men have come! Their work ethic and relentless pursuit of excellence has and will hold them in great stead for successful careers at the elite level!
Very few people know the background stories and as I’ve told many of the young athletes in our program everyone has setbacks! These guys are no exception.
Apart from watching him dominate during AFL Games…I hadn’t seen or heard from Nick Riewoldt for the best part of a decade…in fact, the last time I saw Nick Riewoldt I was getting dosed up with pain killers and taken off in the ambulance to the Gold Coast hospital after dislocating both shoulders in the first quarter of the U/18 AFL Grand Finals at Labrador Footy Ground in 2001 where Nick Riewoldt was special guest doing the commentary for our game!
Nick and I had played junior cricket together at Broadbeach, competed for the Gold Coast little athletics club at Pizzey Park
Fantastic to have USP legacy athlete, Western Bulldogs AFLW captain, Allies Team, All Australian player, 2017 Victorian AFL leading goal kicker and 2017 Victorian Female League Best and Fairest Katie Brennan up for The USP Elite Athletes Retreat to get the edge over her competition. Katie was a revolutionary and was the first ever female to attend our AFL off season strongman camp and The PIT way back in 2012.
Awesome to have Channel 9 Gold Coast News down to USP to showcase a little of what goes on behind the scenes at USP. USP Athletes and top 2017 AFL draft prospects Harry Simington and Brayden Crossley putting in the extra work, fine tuning their minds and bodies before their State and National AFL Draft Combine Testing! Click the link to check out the full video footage and a few NEW things like vision and reaction training techniques we’ve never released publicly before. It’s the mindset of leaving no stone unturned in your preparation that gives you the confidence to know you will perfor
