Sport Specific Training vs Training Transfer

Often coaches and athletes attempt to replicate sports specific movements like using a weighted cable attachment tied around the ankle and swinging the leg in a kicking like manner to replicate the sports action of kicking, some surfers stand on a swiss ball and squat with the the belief that this exercise has greater transference to surfing. The research suggests that many simulated sporting movements can actually distort the athletes biomechanics when to comes to kicking, paddling or surfing which inadvertently decreases performance.

Gold Coast junior footballer Nathan Andrews battles cancer while chasing AFL dream. “I have met some strong people in my life but he is the toughest by far.” Those are the words of Michael Andrews who has watched his son Nathan, 15, battle Leukaemia over the past two years while still maintaining his dream of one day playing in the AFL. The Labrador Tigers player was representing North Gold Coast when he suffered dizziness upon standing up and recalled seeing dots.

Over the past week I’d been playing phone tag with Kurt Tippett, finally after 8 missed calls, he dropped the bombshell. “Joey, Im going to announce my retirement today (Monday 22nd January), I wanted to let you know first, before it was released to the media, mate I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done for me over the past 14 years you’ve had massive impact on me as a man and as a a footballer”!
